How can instructors and instructional designers determine if they have built a well-structured online course? Based on a review of course evaluation tools and guidelines established by nationally recognized leaders in online education like Quality Matters and the Online Learning Consortium, staff members from the Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy and the Office of Online Learning revised LUC's Online Course Evaluation Tool (OCET). OCET is intended to be used by instructors and instructional designers to evaluate the quality of their courses. OCET contains criteria related to course design (learning outcomes, assessments, activities), course navigation (the lay-out of the course in Sakai), and course facilitation (instructor and student participation).   During this session, we will explain each of the OCET criteria and demonstrate how to use the tool. Then, we will give participants an opportunity to practice using OCET to evaluate a course in Sakai. We will debrief with a discussion of how participants experienced using the tool and we will gather feedback on the usefulness of OCET.

Learning Outcomes:
Explain the purpose of Online Course Evaluation Tool and each of the criteria in the Tool. Give examples of how to use the Online Course Evaluation Tool to evaluate your own courses. Demonstrate using the Online Course Evaluation Tool to evaluate an example course in Sakai.
